Alexa Light control - one room working - one room has no "light"

Hi all,

it is a little bit difficult to explain, but I try my best. If I am not clear, please do not hesitate to ask for clarification.

I am new to HA. I have migrated my RaspberryMatic to HA with RaspberryMatic AddOn and the homematic IP local integration. So far everything works. That is great for a start.

Now I am struggeling with one thing I am not able to get my head around.

I have two rooms where I have very similar setup:

  1. Kitchen
  2. Livingroom

Both have two light sources with switches and I can controll them individually with Alexa (I am using NABU Casa).

Also for boths switches I have changed the original RaspberryMatic names now to the following:
Kitchen.Ceiling
Kitchen.Work
Livingroom.Couch
Livingroom.Dining

To be able to switch both of them together, I have created two Groups in HA

Kitchen.Light
Livingroom.Light

and put the devices in accordingly

After Alex learned all of that I can now switch on both lights in the kitchen with:
Alexa, turn on/off the light in the kitchen.

However even everything is literally the same, I cannot do the same with the livingroom.

Alexa responds:
Livingroom does not have this capability.
But I can say
Alex turn on/off the Livingroom light. That works.

Now I am struggeling to understand why that happens and how I will be able to convince Alexa to find the light capability of Livingroom.

I have deleted the whole group from HA and unlearned it from Alexa, then recreated the group and assigned it to Alexa again - no change. And it is not working for Livingroom only …

Any idea on where to look for errors, or missing pieces?

Okay, after some more testing it is even more confusing:

All of those are german sentences for a german Alexa:
Does not work:
Alexa, schalte das Licht im Wohnzimmer an/aus.
(Alexa, turn on/off the lights in the livingroom)
The result is:
Wohnzimmer unterstützt das nicht
(Livingroom does not support that)

Does work:
Alexa, schalte im Wohnzimmer das Licht aus.
(Alexa, in the Livingroom turn the lights off)
Alexa, schalte das Wohnzimmerlicht aus
(Alexa, turn of the living room light).

So even more puzzled on why exactly this one phrase does not work.

Okay, found a solution.

The trick was to use the helper to create a lamp out of a switch, as all the lamps from homematic are actually lamps, but reported as switches.

So I created an alias for each switch as a lamp and exported the lamp to Alexa … I also but in all the rooms up in alexa so that it does know all the rooms from itself and the lamps are now in the rooms. Now alexa can switch on and of all lamps directly or in the complete room.

The main issue was that for the Livingroom I always had a room in Alexa and that there was no Lamps in the livingroom. However I had no kitchen and therefore that group from HA worked for that.

It is strange and I would like the rooms to transport over from HA to Alexa, but I think that is what I have to live with.

Thanks
Ser
