Hello everyone
For what it’s worth, I did search, but couldn’t find the answer. I am trying to set up the Alexa integration, but it says I need a OTP. This is where I get lost. Until this came up, I had never even heard of that before - I have certainly never needed one…until now. But I have less than zero clue as to where I am supposed to get one.
You setup your Amazon account to use two factor auth. The second factor is the OTP. Use the key from the Google or Microsoft or Dashlane or Bitwarden or whatever is creating your 2fa keys - use that.
PLEASE DO NOT use sms as your 2fa option if at all possible SMS is now easily piggybacked ans compromisable if I know your mobile number. If you live in the US there’s more than a 60% chance bad guys have that
Once you have your authenticator app setup where it is generating codes every few seconds, then what do you do from there?
So let’s say that after I do everything in the video and get my authenticator setup, I now want to set up HA’s new integration to run my echos.
I go to SETTINGS->> Devices ->> Add Integration ->> AMAZON->> Alexa Devices.
The integration asks for my AMAZON username and password and OTP.
I type in my username and password and then open my authenticator that generates a number that says 123 456. Do I immediately type that number into my integration area asking for the OTP or do I put this number back into the AMAZON 2 factor area that I did to setup my Authenticator app?
Sorry to be so dumb about this, but the HA integration keeps failing to connect.
yes after you add your country email and password open your auth app wait until the OTP change for a new one and hit submit, if you get an error login try change the country to United States
