I have a really weird issue that I think is coming from Home Assistant’s Alexa skill (Nabu Casa).
Let me first say that I’m relatively new to Home Assistant and that I understand HA’s own local-only Assistant is a better way to go. However, I have Alexa devices in every room and would like to continue using these devices for voice commands until I’m ready to switch over to HA’s own Assistant.
Here’s the problem:
Several nights a week, usually around 2:30am, my lights will suddenly come on. Usually it’s just the Hue bulbs in the house (which is annoying when those include my bedside table lights), but sometimes it’s every single light in the house.
The following appears in my HA log:
Amazon Alexa sent command Alexa/ReportState for Light group - Lights (All)
2:37:23 AM - Yesterday - Home Assistant Cloud
The above is just an example. I see a similar entry for every light shared with Alexa. I have created these light groups so they can be controlled through Alexa voice commands.
I understand that Alexa.ReportState is used by Alexa skills for state reporting of controllable devices and assume that Home Assistant’s Alexa skill is using this interface.
The problem is that when my HA is receiving this command, under some mysterious circumstances, it actually triggers those items to turn ON. But this happens inconsistently and I can’t figure out the pattern or how to fix it.
When the Hue bulbs come on they usually stay on only for 30 seconds or so and then go back off again. When my z-wave light switches are triggered, however, those stay on indefinitely.
As you can imagine, I’m highly motivated to figure out why all my lights come on around 2:30am several nights a week.
Your help is appreciated!
