All I want is Robot Barrista to do my bidding while I lay in bed

Currently, I’m using a French press coffee maker because of space and lack of outlets. But when we move into our house, I really want a wifi-enabled coffee maker. Sometimes, I wake up in the morning, and the energy required to actually make my own coffee is simply not there. It’s such a white people problem, I know, but it’s real.

The WeMo coffee makers seem to be unavailable, and I’m not sure I want to spend that kind of money on one anyway. There is also the Brew Genie which is cheaper than the Mr. Coffee WeMo thing, but works over BT and has some bad reviews. So I’m learning my way around the ESP8266, MQTT (both going a little rough right now. I think I need a book or something)

Some functions I’m looking for in order of importance:

  1. Turn on coffee pot from HA: duh.
This could be done with something like a WeMo switch, but that’s a bit limiting and the ratio of cost to functionality is pretty low. Therefore, I’m planning on using Adafruit’s Feather Huzzah board with their power relay wing.
  2. Select number of cups: I’m the only one in the house who drinks coffee, but some days are better than others.
  3. Built-in grinder: important if I’ll be able to select the number of cups.
  4. stats: How much coffee do I drink anyway? (A job for the AdaLogger? Or would HA’s built-in history stats work?)

There may be some other factors that I’m forgetting right now. So does anyone have some advice? And if someone could point me in the direction of a <$100 coffee maker that is somewhat hackable, that would be cool. Or any other experiences/advice, anything, would be appreciated.

(BTW, AWESOME username!!)

woops. Sorry about that.

No worries - one of the jobs of being a mod.

Wish I had answer for you but I use a Keurig and I can’t even turn mine on remotely. I miss my old Keurig; at least that had a timer.

Keurig K155 coffee brewer is the way to go!

Since this post, I have bought a Cuisinart Grind & Brew machine, which I quite like. Since I enjoy freshly ground coffee, it helps keep the counter clean.

Also, if you take a look at one of my previous posts, you’ll see that I have gotten a pretty decent start on this.

Have you, in the meantime, seen the following: https://github.com/OpHaCo/smart_coffee_machine
It will do exactly what you want.
I will start to build something similar (will first install a Sonoff POW in my coffee machine and later on build a similar thing like this)

My wife actually figured out a great solution for getting her coffee made in the morning with no effort. It’s really impressive because she has no IT background or coding experience.

She gets me to make it for her every morning!
