The smart switches I use create a light entity. By default they turn on to the last brightness they were at. I want all light entities to turn on at 100% from sunrise to sunset and 50% from sunset to sunrise. I can figure out how to do it if I make an automation for each entity, but I’d much prefer all light entities to inherit the behavior. I’ve looked at automations, scenes, and light default turn-on values. Nothing seems to quite do what I want. Thanks for any help or reading material.
I think you need to look into groups. For instance I have a group called outside that I use to turn on all the outside lights at sunset:
outside:
name: outside
entities:
- light.garage_door_lightbulb_1 - switch.sundeck_outlet
- light.garage_door_lightbulb_2
- light.front_door_lightbulb
- light.patio_light_switch
I have 50+ such groups for everything from all the lights in a room to all the switches in the house. So at night when my wife press the virtual switch by her bed, all the switches in the house turn off.
I don’t think groups are what I’m looking for. I think a group makes the devices change together. I just want every dimmable light in my home to come on at a different brightness depending on the time of day
