All sorts of Zwave issues

Hello Brain Trust!

I am hoping someone can help here.

So it’s kind of a long story but I will see if I can sum it up easily and make it make sense.

Back in Sept when my mother moved in with me (long story) I had to move my Rasp Pi, well at that time I decided to make a virtual machine in windows and that worked fine. Then I assume an update happened and 1 of my 3 Neo NAS-PD02Z by Shenzhen Neo Electronics Co., Ltd. (Amazon purchase) stopped reporting correctly. Excluded it, assumed it was a fluke, and included it again. Still wasn’t reporting right.

Gave it some time, thought maybe it was an update issue or a distance issue. Mom moved out, moved the Pi back to it’s original home and restored my last good config. Again, the other 2 worked fine, the 3rd did not.

Upgraded again and again hoping to get it to work again, it doesn’t even come up as a recognized device. Comes up not ready, if I fight with it enough I can get it come up, but it doesn’t report anything correctly. Rolled the server back to 1.53, same thing. Ran it on that thinking maybe the sensor was bad, and added a new Zwave device yesterday, worked fine, reported fine etc. Upgraded Core today (and zwave went to 1.54) and now the new one from yesterday is coming up unknown and not ready. Got a new PIR sensor today (same as I was using same as the 2 good ones), same thing as well.

All of this time, the other 2 have worked with no issues at all, so something has changed and there is a legacy of some kind is my guess, but how do I add the new devices? Or do I need to break down and start buying different stuff?

I am sure there will be questions about my story since it’s dating back to September of last year, and I will do my best to recall any details you might need, but I am stumped and if I am going to have to return devices I need to do it soon so I can get the credit and get new ones.

Thank you for your help everyone!!

What Zwave (zwavejs, open Zwave, zwavejsmqtt, etc) you using and how is it running and setup?

Just for refference, I’m running 6 of these Neo sensors with Z-wave Js and zwave.me stick for allmost a year now, they all run fine.

Have you tried factory reset them?

Oppsie my apologies I have been on Zwave JS through all of this, and now currently on

Z-Wave JS
Current version: 0.1.54

thats 5 clicks of the button and hold for 5 seconds, unless theres something else, but yes I have been doing that.

That doesn’t explain the new one yesterday that is now not working today upon upgrading (Garage door tilt sensor)

Also using

UZB

by Z-Wave.Me

Firmware: 5.37

As my stick

Should I try uninstalling Zwave JS and starting it over? Maybe with all the moves and changes it’s confused?

I just tried to exclude the new PIR from today, and it went into exclusion mode, and instantly popped right back out like it was done, but didn’t do anything.

Are you using a USB extension cable between your Pi and the Zwave.me stick?

Not at this time, I did read that some people have had to do that, and I considered it, but with 2 of them working still I wasn’t sure if that would do any good or not. Should I try that?

yes, it may help. I do use one too.

I will do that right now then, I am not sure how long I have for one, but I know I have at least one.

Quick little update, decided while I wait for dinner to arrive, I would remove the addon, and the delete the integration, and start it all over.

It failed to start the first time, I rebooted, and went to readd it all again and it fired right up, with all my nodes not ready and when I added the original troubled one, it came up as a status of “dead”. Not sure how you can add a dead a device, but thats where I am, and will try the USB now.

So with all my nodes now being marked as unknown, I started to try to remove them, and this is what I get…

The device could not be removed from your Z-Wave network.

Z-Wave error 202: Failed to send the message after 3 attempts (ZW0202)

This was trying to remove a failed device. In the logs of the integration, all I see is 1 attempt to ping a node (it was the other node I tried, I tried 9 first, then 5) so it’s not even really attempting to do anything it seems.

So one thing I have noticed through all this as well, and it may not mean anything or no one will know what to do with it.

In Configure for the integration, I can click exclude, and get the 2nd box to pop up to start exclusion, and that 2nd box does absolutely nothing. I can click it all day long, and it doesn’t ever go into exclusion mode.

I am oddly enough fixed up and my node count finally started back at 0.

Now I will leave some notes here in case anyone else runs into anything similar to me. Unlikely but who knows.

Your best bet is to delete the integration, uninstall the addon remove your stick and reboot.

That is all I can say really, it makes no sense the rest of it, I had errors back to back to back, and then all of a sudden it just worked. I would reboot each time I got an error though, I didn’t try to do anything else.

Also have a USB cable for your stick. Mine is longer than it needs to be, but meh, it works.

Hope this helps someone else somehow, and I hope this never happens again whatever it was.

Thank you to everyone that gave me suggestions and tried to help!
