I have a HA installation with 24 devices. After connecting a Schwage BE469ZP, I started having trouble with devices becoming unavailable. I first tried excluding devices as I discovered they were having trouble and including them again. It seemed to work with the door lock, so I added a window open/close sensor. It worked for less than a day.
I tried rebulding the network. I started it and waited a couple of hours. Still missing devices. I then checked every device. That was when I relized every device was experiencing the issue. Switches are working when pressed (turns on its light) but not connecting to my HA server. I tried rebuilding again, this time waiting for 24 hours. Still every device is unavailable.
There is one device that seems to be dead. The porch light switch is one of the oldest of my zwave devices, a Zooz none-dimming wall switch. It does not turn on the light. Iāve ordered a replacement Inovelli which I will install as its replacement.
What is my best course of action to solve this problem? Is is likely I will have to exclude then include all two dozen devices? Do faulty devices such as my porch light switch cause problems on the zwave netork?
Iām using the lastest HA version will all updatres installed as of a few days ago. Using Z-Wave JS
Power off and force remove this one from the network.
Poorly behaving devices can on occasion harm your ZWave network comms. (read we donāt know exactly what itās doing but Iāve seen enough ādyingā ZWave devices spew random junk and interrupt comms enough to know you donāt want it there and removing it probably wonāt make things worse)
After itās out. Think about your network and did this device going out blow apart a key repeating node?
Ah, thanks for the reply.
I will remove the device first thing tomorrow. Is it likely the system will recover on itās own or will I have to āRebuild Network Routesā? BTW, any idea how long this takes for 20+ devices?
Iāll post a reply when I get it done.
Refrain from build entire network unless you have a specific reason. Itās like swatting a fly with a sledgehammer. It can flood the network. Instead target specific routes if you can.
The answer depends on what happened and what your devices are. If theyāre all relatively modern plus devices on recent chipsets yeah itāll eventually calm down.
But if you have a lot of older devices or that one device was the only router between x and yā¦ It may take more. Not enough data to tell.
Okay, Iāll just do a removal to see what happens.
My network is a mix of older and newer plus devices.
Not enough data? I can give you more.
I have a google spreadsheet with all my devices. If youāre interested, hereās a link: Device Inventory
Not all of these devices are yet installed (door sensors and the replacement porch light switch). I created this to be my checklist to get the system back up and running over the next few days.
The zwave stick is a ZST10-700 Zooz USB 700 Series Z-Wave Plus S2 Stick
My HA device is a former small desktop PC running HAOS. The stick is connected via USB I have no zigbee devices and a few wifi devices (which all seem to be working fine).
Do you have the stick directly connected to the pc or is it on a short extension or a USB hub?
(yes it can matter) if you donāt, consider doing this. Interference from a modern usb3 bus can wreak havoc with these sticks plugging into usb2 bus instead or insulating it by putting a usb2 hub between van help.
Hard to describe but in your logs obvious connection issues with JS. Will look shortly and maybe someone else can as well with logs now.
Itās connected directly the rear panel of the little pc. Iāll look around for a short USB extension.
Thanks again for helping me with this problem. Iāve had it working well for several months and decided to add a few devices (door lock, more door sensors, additional wall switches). Suddenly the system has failed miserably. Itās frustrating.
I have installed a 6in USB extension for the Z-Wave stick. Itās probably 4 inches from the back panel of the PC. Behavior is unchanged, almost.
Some devices are now appearing on my dashboard as they did prior to this problem starting. I have a panel which shows lights on in the house. Itās showing some lights on when they are not and others as off when they are on. I canāt control them on my dashboard (though I could last week). On their individual devices screen, they cannot be controlled. Most are grayed-out. Some are not and moving them doesnāt have any effect on the actual device.
In my attempt to troubleshoot my problem, Iām looking for any thing that appear not right with Z-Wave or Z-Wave devices. Besides what I mentioned above, hereās a couple of things I have notice.
The zwave_js integration config page shows ā28 devices (6 not ready)ā I donāt see a way to find more info on the 6 devices. The list of devices seems to just list them (if battery, thereās an icon that seems to be showing the battery level. Thereās nothing that says if a device is ready or not.
I have one device that is no longer installed and I canāt seem to remove it. When I attempt to delete it, the dialogue box just disappears without any change. If I try āRemove failedā, HA tells me the device could not be removed with this error: Z-Wave_error: Z-Wave error 360 - The removal process could not be completed (ZW0360) I would like to get rid of this device.
These three errors make me think thereās something wrong with my Z-Wave installation, not a particular device.
