Alternative to Home Assistant cloud for Google Home without opening any ports?

With home Assistant cloud free subscription ending. Can we have our tasmotised devices, local components that are added to HA working with Google home without subscribing to HA cloud? Any alternative methods available to run locally ( link to Google Home without showing HA to outside world/SSl/Duck DNS ? )

Please help.

None that I know of.

your 2 choices at this time are:

Pay for cloud

OR

Open a single port

Options as stated… pay for a relay or open your ports.

Your choices are:

  1. Use cloud
  2. Build your own relay server on a hosting or cloud service (cost between $0 and $10 depending on many variables)
  3. Forward ports

Hi, can any of you share some background on the ‘opening ports’ ?
A link perhaps?
Im running Hassio on a Pi, and have a couple of google homes.

Thank you

Opening ports refers to ports on your router. It depends on your router, and sometimes your ISP. It has nothing to do with Home Assistant directly. You can open a port to host a number of things on your network.

Sorry, i should have phrased my question better.
I’m well familiar with opening ports on my router. i host a couple of servers at home. My Pi is also reachable through duckdns (without a port).

Which port should i open for GA to talk to my Pi?

not possible. You have to have opened a port in order for the pi to be accessible.

if you have the ability to get to Home Assistant remotely and it is secured with SSL, then you don’t have to do anything else.
