Another big reason for disconnecting from the big tech cloud, or from any cloud whatsoever not in your full control. This is a telltale article describing how Amazon arbitrarily blocked a customer from his Echo devices after an unverified incident involving insults at his home.
Frankly this should be illegal.

I can see how you might think that, but why should it be illegal? It’s a paid service, and as such, is subject to the terms of service.
To be clear - I don’t agree with it either. However, rather than advocate for MORE government involvement in my life, I just vote with my wallet and don’t buy any Amazon devices. Problem solved.
