With hardware turning to requiring the cloud and no longer working with HA after firmware upgrades, are there any WiFi, plug into the outlet, switches that can be purchased today and still work with HA? Would like to get a stock of them if I can find something. They also shouldn’t require a hub, but be self-contained.
There are some brands out there selling tasmota based switches. Athom is one of the Chinese brands in AliExpress which sells them. (Not affiliated)

The Matter protocol may help in this regard. Many of the major companies are adopting because the IoT world is so fragmented. It is supposed to allow local control over any device that supports the protocol. This might change your decision.

For wifi devices the only ones I know of need to be flashed with a third party firmware (such as Tasmota as mentioned or ESPHome). You can flash them yourself if you have a bit of technical ability.
I don’t know anything about Athom so they may be what you are looking for if you don’t want to try to flash others yourself.
Sweet! Thanks for posting that!
I didn’t find any Tasmota flashed devices, but they are selling a bunch of different devices flashed with ESPHome. I already use ESPHome, so for me that’s even better. Prices don’t look too bad, well worth avoiding the hassle of messing with the hardware to flash them myself. Some of the devices even say “Works with Home Assistant.” I can see myself becoming a regular customer!
Just search “athom esphome” in Ali.
