Any way to "lock" the color of a light?

I have a single color LED strip plugged into a Zigbee RGBCCW LED controller (RGB plus cool and warm white). The LEDs are only on if the light is set to cool white and turns off if set to warm white or a RGB color. This behavior is expected since there is nothing wired to the warm white or RGB channels.

Is there a way for HA or Z2MQTT to treat this light as a single color light? It’s part of groups that I want to control together but I want this light’s color to stay locked even if I adjust the color of the group. I’d like the brightness to change with the group, but not the color. Is that possible, maybe with a helper?

Thank you!

Create a single channel template light and use that instead of the original entity.
