Anyone Successfully Able to Read Zigbee Gas Meters?

I have an Itron 250 gas meter with a 2.4 Ghz OpenWay Gas Module that apparently uses Zigbee to transfer readings 1-2 times daily.

Here’s the link to what I’m talking about: 2.4GZ OpenWay Gas Module - Product Detail - Itron

I have a SDR and rtlamr but that doesn’t pick anything up. I also have a Zigbee dongle but I’m not sure how to use it to “listen” to the 1-2 daily reading outputs. Any ideas?

From my experience, I doubt you will find a solution. The Zigbee networks that the various utilities use are encrypted and unless some insider ‘spills da bean’ on the encryption keys, the chances of you being able to find a way in are slim. That said, you might keep an eye on the BlackHat conference videos and similar, probably where news of any hacks would be reported.

Good hunting!
