Anyone tried using Dash (car app) with HA?

I’ve been using Automatic for the last 3 years, but I’m about to upgrade to a new car, and unfortunately this model isn’t supported since I don’t live in the US, and the app no longer supports international activations, so I’m looking to migrate to Dash (https://dash.by) for my smart car tracking. Anyone here use this? Tried to use it with HA? Cheers!

According to their website, Dash integrates with IFTTT.
You should be able to get something going with that

I’ll definitely do something with IFTTT once my dongle arrives. Would be cool to get native support for it like Automatic.

How does Dash work ? Does it pair with a phone for data ? Is there a subscription fee ?

Dash is a just an app (iOS/Android) that reads the data from an OBD dongle. They say it works with almost any dongle which is great. There’s no subscription but it does use your data, although wouldn’t be much.

Did you get any further with this ?

I have it setup on an old phone with no sim, so it only updates when the car is at home and able to access wifi.
Through IFTTT its now logging to a google doc ( which in not very useful as far as Home Assistant is concerned )
Unfortunately about the only thing I’m interested in, fuel level, is about the only thing I cant access through IFTTT. Which is just dumb, because I can trigger events on fuel level, I just can’t read them directly for some reason.
I’ll be very happy to be proven wrong though

My next option will be to use Dash’s own API.
Getting authentication looks to be a little convoluted and beyond me though.

Unfortunately no, gave it a go but it didn’t work with my car as hoped as it was logging only 1 trip out of 10 so went a different way. May revisit down the road but given up on this platform for now.

Can I ask what the different way was ? Does it integrate with HA ?

I’ve finally gotten this to work with DASH. HTTP sensors in HA updated from IFTTT Fuel Level, Fuel Consumption, Engine alarm status.

There are plenty more available, but none that I’m interested in.

As mentioned above, the phone in the car has no sim, so sensors are only updated when the car is at home on wifi.
Ping to phone used at tracker, although status options are limited to ‘Home’ or ‘Away’

I went with GoFar which is pretty much an Australian equivalent of Automatic but it doesn’t have an API or IFTTT integration yet, which is something I’ve been in touch with them about.

My main need from an OBD device is to track KMs for business use, so although HA integration would be nice, it’s not at the top of my priority list for now.

Hello, can you explain a bit your configuration? I am only seeing trigger options in IFTTT in order to work with Dash.
How can you publish the value of the Fuel Consumption?
Regards.

Have you worked any further on integration with Gofar?
Would be cool if that could be used in Hass

Hi @icaman004,

Did you have any further luck with GoFar? i have just purchased one and have also asked about an API or IFTTT support, so will update if i get anything back from them.

Got a response back from GoFar which is great:

Hi Pedro - the goal is to empower drivers with data, so we’re planning on offering customers an API at some point this year. What IFTTT integrations do you think you’d find most useful if we did that too?

About time! I’ve had mine for 2 years, and have asking because their support doesn’t seem interested in anything else except their immediate product. Hopefully they open up the API like Automatic had, that was great to use, but can’t even use that on my car anymore.

They have also asked me what i’d like to see in IFTTT, so if there are any requests let me know and i’ll pass it on.

Maybe ask them to have an open discussion forum on their support page?
