Hello Hive Mind. I have a Surface Pro 1 that I purchased when they originally came out. Currently Windows 10 Home Pro installed. I have set up Edge as a browser, in kiosk mode. I am attempting to use this as a dashboard. The problem is that the WiFi connection drops out and I then need to fluff around with it to get it connected again. Typically a reboot fixes it.
Are there any other people out there running SP1 tablets as dashboards successfully? If yes I would love to hear how you manage to not have problems with the WiFi.
I have tried many things. Updated the Marvell 350N network drivers, checked everything for power down modes, etc. Should stay powered on all the time and no timeouts that I am aware of.
I tried doing a regular ping on WiFi and that didn’t help. Also tried regular mouse clicks to keep it awake. Always ended up with loss of connection (WiFi and/or Bluetooth) and needing a reboot.
Been there, done that. Lots. Nothing seems to get it to a reliable piece of hardware for more than a day or so. Mainly caused by the manky 350N Ethernet hardware according to what I have read.
I was hoping someone here was clever enough to have a solution .
Got the problem sorted. Purchased a Samsung Galaxy A9+ tablet and put the SP1 in the drawer. Just working on setting up the kiosk stuff now.
Would have been nice to reuse the SP1 but there was no likely solution to the unreliability. Unreliability in my system would spell the end of any WAF (wife acceptance factor).
As a bonus the A9+ tablet is thinner than the SP1.
