Aoetec Multisensor 6 ( Motion then trigger light )

I just upgraded to Z-wave JS yesterday and paired my Multi 6. It was successful but motion not sensed. I’m using USB powered.

Manually I can turn on the light but motion is not triggering

( automation that I’m trying to run )

← nothing is sensed

Device info

ZW100

by AEON Labs

Firmware: 1.8

Z-Wave Info

ID: 27

Status: Alive

Ready: Yes

Highest security: None

Z-Wave Plus: Version 1

Is there any special configuration that I missed out?
Thanks.

I seem to recall from when I set mine up that you need to configure parameter 5 to report motion as a Binary Sensor CC Report:

Thanks for the advice. I adjusted based on what you recommend.
Still nothing detected. Anything sleep state of the device? Is the sensor perpetually on? Do I need to restart HA for it to take effect? Thanks

Make sure that you are looking at the right sensor. There is one called something like sensor.multisensor_6_home_security_motion_sensor_status, this is not the motion sensor. By default, the motion sensor may be called “Any”. Your best bet is to check each of the entities associated with the device and see which one is triggered when motion is detected.

Also, see here for Aeotec’s recommended seting for the device: https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000115071-difference-between-usb-and-battery-power-and-recommendations-multisensor-6-zw100-

Also, your firmware seems to be out of date. The current version is 1.15.

Correction, 1.08 can’t be upgraded and trying to will brick your device!!

I read about the firmware upgrade… I have a windows machine. can I do it without affecting my z-wave stick?

See my edit to the post above, it’s can’t be done. Apologies!

No worries. if it can’t be done we should move on.
I just need to set this up real quick . let me check if there is any other z-wave motion sensor. Thanks

I have 4 of these and they all work great. What is your PIR Sensor Timeout and PIR Sensitivity set to? Also, check to make sure Parameters 101 and 102 are on.

PR Sensor Timeout = 10
PIR Sensitivity = 5
Both are ON.

Are yours v1.8?

Thanks

Seems like PIR Sensitivity helped.may I know your settings?

manual trigger, the sensor turn on.
manual trigger automation, lights went on.

automation doesn’t run though.

What could be the issue? Thanks

It might be working now based on the post above.
Like what you said there are 2 similar worded sensor

binary_sensor.multisensor_6_motion_detection ← does the detection ( so I wanna use this right? )
sensor.multisensor_6_motion_sensor_status ← output of the detection

not sure why they didn’t incorporate both together or this is not the normal convention whereby input and output needs to be separated. Thanks

I don’t know either. Aeotec have a habit on including many extra entities the don’t appear to have any obvious use. In my setup, I disable a lot of them including sensor.multisensor_6_motion_sensor_status.
Glad to hear it’s working for you now.

it’s partially working. it still didn’t toggle though.

based on my limited knowledge , the toggle should be from binary and not sensor.

What I did for troubleshooting?

  1. Manually run automation. Light is UP ( output working )
  2. Manual software toggle . Automation is UP
  3. hover hand, nothing happen. Sensor is down.

Still need help from fellow Aeotec Motion Sensor users.

High chance some settings that has not be set correctly
Thanks

The motion sensor entity is a binary_sensor which will be on when motion is detected. If you can see the binary_sensor change state when it detects motion, then the problem is with your automation, not the multisensor.

I think problem is this toggles
sensor.multisensor_6_motion_sensor_status ← output of the detection

instead of the
binary_sensor.multisensor_6_motion_detection

@nealthomas21 may I trouble you to help mecheck my settings above? Is it a firmware issue or config issue? Thanks

I think it’s a config issue. Turn off “Wake Device for 10 minutes…” and set “PIR Sensor Timeout” to 20 seconds. Can you show Parameter 101 and 102?

Depending on what Parameters 101 and 102 say you may need to unplug the USB, let it sit for a few minutes and plug it back in or do a reset. Parameter 9 is read only and it says as “Asleep”, it should say “Always awake on USB power”.

I did an unpair, reset, pair? Can’t seem to change to ‘Always awake’

How does one toggle to “Always awake on USB power” LOL?

Do you have a battery you can put in it? Put a battery in it let it read that it has a battery and then connect it back to the USB.
