Apple HomeKit and Toggle location

Hi there

I’ve follow one video on TikTok from a guy using HomeKit (bridge) to toggle (Boolean) a “button” to ensure I arrive/leave home

The guy have a point. Probably more stable location and battery saving

So the ideia is using the HomeKit to “send” home assistant the information Im near home to open gate, turn on light and so…

The video is very short and resumed. Can’t follow to put it running. And also can’t find anything on google

  1. Make an input boolean in HA.
  2. Configure the HomeKit bridge integration.
  3. Expose your input boolean to HomeKit.
  4. Created presence automations with iOS.

I there. I do not. But I have working VPN

The strange thing is that I expose it but when. I try to creat an automation to trigger the boolean create. System don’t let me.

You must create the automation via the iOS Shortcuts app by setting up a “My Home” automation.

This is how I did it some years ago also. Create 2 automations in Homekit: when you leave and when you arrive in a region. Work great!!

iOS shortcuts or iOS HomeKit?

I think you mean HomeKit.

Now for some unknown reason still can’t add the bridge. (In a few time pass it fail). I’m not at home but connect by VPN

The app is called Shortcuts, as I’ve stated several times now.

HomeKit is a framework.

its here I should create the automation correct ? Do work with HA toggles

No. What you’ve circled is the Home app (not the Shortcuts app, and it isn’t HomeKit).

Ok. Let me arrive home and see if I can setup the bridge. As under VPN probably Nop possible.

Appreciate your collaboration

Thanks

Check this option Video

I just set the QRcode. I add the toggle created but following the video don’t have the automations “enable” even on Shortcuts as you say

I’m not going to watch that video. I don’t have time for that and videos get outdated.

Do you have an Apple TV, HomePod or iPad as a hub?

I’ve given you simple instructions. Detail your steps exactly so that we can see where you are going wrong.

I understand… you well…

No I dont have any apple hub… (I thought when importing a compatible device, reading the qrcode, I have access to the “hub” I need… maybe as you say… outdated process

Going to read now more carefully your instructions… I will reply re result.

Thks

For this method to work, you need a hub, since the iOS/HomeKit automation must be a “home automation” and not a “personal automation”. The “home automation” option is only there with a hub.

HI there, I read your post here from 2020 I think… and ask also to IA and finally I’m able to set up the automation… now just need to test

sorry… it takes many steps to arrive and translation to PT (using my head) well… some mistakes made… But seems I figure out …

I will post here some information next days
