Hi all, new user here. I started my HA journey about 2 weeks ago and so far so good ( for the most part.) I have run into a few snags along the way and you guys have graciously helped me through them all. Much appreciated…
So my current issue/roadblock that I am running into involves the apple tv integration and it’s ability to successfully run automations from, using it’s state as the trigger.
My goal: when the apple tv turns on, trigger a smart plug that my projector is plugged into to automatically turn on the projector as well. then to do the opposite when the apple tv turns off, to also trigger the action of turning off the plug that the projector is plugged into.
My problem: the apple tv’s “state” doesnt update/change in HA unless I make the change using the HA UI. When I turn on or off the apple tv with the remote, nothing changes in HA and the projector remains on or off.
Am I doing something wrong? I assume that since the automation works when I use the HA app, that the automation is doable, however I need to ensure that the automation runs based off the state of the apple tv and not the state manually changed within HA.
Is this doable? Thanks for any help/input! I really appreciate it!
I am attempting to develop an automation that interacts with the YouTube client on the Apple TV. For me, the state of the Apple TV itself always updates perfectly in real time. Did you go through the full pairing process when setting up the integration, i.e. allowed all three pairing attempts? Don’t know why exactly but all three are required for full functionality.
I dont remember it asking me to pair more than once. Should I delete the integration and devices and start from scratch again? I wonder if maybe I missed something during setup, as it was like the 1st or 2nd integration that I did when I first got HA up & running.
It should ask more than once at least, though the exact number may depend on your settings. If for example you allow AirPlay without entering a code on the screen possibly that means one less pairing.
If on the Apple TV you go into Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices, do you have at least one Home Assistant (I have two) and one pyatv there? If you don’t, I’d try deleting/forget whatever is in there, remove the integration and redo the setup.
