Apple watch with cellular for child, Companion App?

If you setup an apple watch w/ cellular for a child, via Family Setup, can you install the HA companion app on the watch? Will the companion app work properly without a dedicated iphone paired to the watch?

I have the same question. I think the answer is NO, but I’m chiming in here in case someone else replies with a better answer…

I have the same question and unfortunately I can’t figure out a way to load it without a connected phone. It’d be great to allow a limited version for push notifications, device tracking, etc without having to use other methods.

Is there any news regarding that feature ?

Wondering the same thing.

Can’t that be tested and reported here? By chance @sdholden28, @_Mike, @jlmaners, @Zorgonaute84 or @potts-mike you own some capable apple tech to test?

Or maybe even the genius bar can help? :clinking_glasses:

I can confirm that if you go to the App Store on the watch and try and download the app it shows as purchased (from his iPad) but it’s unable to be download.

Sounds like some apple goodness coming to play here. Is their any explanation/reason given why the app isn’t downloaded/installed?

The docs are probably are all read by you including the necessary requirements like, e.g.

In order to install watchOS 8 you must have an Apple Watch Series 3 or newer

The watch app needs to be reworked as a standalone app instead of being part of the iPhone app.

If a feature request exist you might link it here for more traction - if not you might go over to the githubs to create the feature request :raised_hands:

Currently you can’t do it. You CAN however install the iCloud3 integration and track an LTE watch that way. It’s not instant tracking like normal phones or the companion app, but it works well enough for our purposes.
