I’m new to HA, so I may be missing some information. I have a new Aqara FP2 and have been unable to get HA to “see” it. I have read extensively on what others had to say and I can’t get far because it looks like Aqara has updated their software to V 4.2.1 and it does not give the screens referenced in any of the how-tos. I can add the sensor and I can ping it, but HA never sees it. It sort of appears that Aqara has screwed up something in the deletion of the device from the iOS Homekit app. Can anybody offer some help in trying to fix this?
This is the guide I used to setup mine. Still works today. I have 3 FP2 sensors (one of which I got a couple of weeks ago) and they are all in HA.
Basically, add the sensor to Aqara Home, add it to Homekit, remove it from Homekit again and it should show up in HA as a discovered device.
Yes, I found this article to be the most complete and easy to follow and I even printed it out as a check-off while getting the FP 2 on the network. After about the second step I realized I was screwed and none of the ensuing screens were what was expected as described in the link. The last thing after getting the device on the network is an un-asked-for mandatory “binding.” Now if that means binding the IP address, I’m good. Otherwise, that may be where things go wrong. There is no ability to see a top banner and (I assume) the same commands are available if one drills down far enough. Anyway, I’m still not getting HA to see the device. So, I’ve tried to follow the intent of the link. Still no joy.
Did you get it up to the point of adding it to Homekit? You have to let it completely get added to Homekit for it to work properly.
Also, power cycle it before pairing with HA.
What does that mean? I get the FP2 flashing yellow, then I am asked to add it to the “Home,” then am asked to add the accessory by inputting the Setup Code (which is now in the format xxxx-xxxx, not xxx-xx-xxx), then Sensor Location, then Sensor Name, then Name for Sensor Details, then a window pops up saying, "Sensor added to [My] Network. The only choice on that window is “Done,” and then the iPhone goes into a “Binding Screen,” without any choice to skip or quit. The next screen says “Added Successfully,” with a button saying “Done”. The next screen asks for “Detection Mode,” with 3 choices and an install now button. Exiting that window I go to the main screen and there is no top banner. I can go Profile>Homekit Devices>[appropriate sensor], which is marked as “bound”>. From “Accessories” I can also go to [appropriate sensor] and it asks me to set up detention modes… there is no “Skip.” and I have to setup the area except AI allows me to “Skip.” There is no way to go to “room” and look at the “accessories” therein. One can go to “accessories” and delete the appropriate one. I have done that, but the FP2 still has not appeared.
Maybe this is the point I am missing! How to I pair it with HA? What I am reading leads me to believe that it will “just happen!”
PS
Good to see a familiar name!
I had one sensor that just would not add to Homekit no matter what I tried. Turned out it was faulty. I sent it back to Amazon and got a replacement and it worked flawlessly.
With that said, it should “just happen”. When you add it to Aqara Home, it should then automatically add it to Homekit. That part takes about 5 minutes or so (Homekit is slow when adding devices sometimes). Once it is FULLY added, let it bake there for a couple of minutes and then remove it again (hold the sensor tile and go to it’s settings and remove it). Then you should see it appear in the Homekit Devices integration.
Ha! Yeah… I’ve been away from the forums for sometime… needed to take a life break
Yup, noticed yours too… like minds…
I don’t have mine in HA yet but I seen that you need to use a Homekit “plugin” to use the FP2. So in that you’d have to add it. Sorry I can’t be more help yet, I will be adding mine soon. I’m considering trying Matter instead of Homekit but haven’t locked into that yet.
All I can say for sure is you’ll have to power cycle it before pairing.
Found this:
Just noticed it was posted above already… oops.
Decided to move mine over to HA.
Added the Homekit integration, disconnected the FP2 from my “other” system, power cycled it and it was found instantly.
Working perfectly in HA.
I guess I have a faulty unit. Being new to HA I sort of blamed everything on my lack of experience.
I had that same issue with one of mine. I had to do an exchange on Amazon for it and the new one has been working well so far.
Hello all
I have 2 aqara sensors FP2 - I did set it up in aqara app and home kit ( I can see it in both)
But i can not find it in HA
I tried the below but still anything…
When you first setup the FP2 it automatically uses Apple Home on an iPhone. The FP2 isn’t yet matter certified, so we need to remove it from Apple Home to add it to Home Assistant. A future Matter firmware update should allow multiple Matter controllers access.
1. In the Apple Home app go to the room where the FP2 was assigned. Along the top banner find Occupancy and long press it. Verify you see details about the FP2.
2. Scroll down to Remove Accessory and tap it. Tap Remove.
3. Switch over to your HA console, and go to Settings → Device & Services. You should see a newly discovered Presence-Sensor-FP2 via HomeKit. Click Configure.
After testing out one of these, I got two more.
I insist on having sensors like this on an IoT subnet and HA on the internal subnet. This requires opening firewall ports. For me with only limited knowledge, it took quite a bit of time before I got it right. However, it’s a one time job, but I wish it used Zigbee or Z-wave instead of wifi. That would have been SO much easier!
Pros:
- It does a better job at detecting people sitting still than two (possibly three - I only tested two) ordinary motion sensors.
- Built in light sensor to aid in controlling light automations.
- Configurable zones within the detection range allows it to act like several detectors with very sharply defined borders.
- Pretty good range. I think we have 8m in the living room…
Cons: - However, it’s still not perfect. Our boy can “disappear” in the couch at the far end of the range.
- Price
- firewall configuration,
- Aqara app dependency for setup.
There is a firmware update that needs to be installed BEFORE configuration, or it just won’t work.
It needs a user supplied USB port/charger for power.
I recommend this product.
/Fumble
HA sees these sensors through the Homekit integration. As device can be connected to only one Homekit bridge, you need to remove these sensors from home application on apple device, before it will be discoverable in HA.
I did it all .
Still can’t find it …
Any idea ?
I have same problem here, is there any good how to?
