Aqara FP300 Presence Sensor

The above was announced at CES earlier this year and appears to be a pretty exciting addition to Aqara’s sensor range. It is battery powered and has Zigbee.

* Lifehacker coverage

From the Aqara announcement:

Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 – Leveraging both PIR and millimeter wave (mmWave) sensing for precise and prompt detection, the FP300 is among the first battery-operated presence sensors announced on the market. With an extended battery life of up to two years, this compact, wire-free sensor can be placed wherever. Featuring Thread and Zigbee protocols, the FP300 is Matter-enabled and offers future-proofed interoperability across platforms. It also packs independent light, temperature and humidity sensors for ambient sensing, which makes it a highly versatile solution for enhanced energy efficiency, comfort, and security.

I am anxiously awaiting the release. I’ll replace my 10-12 qty P1 and P2 sensors with this immediately and probably add more of them in rooms where I don’t currently monitor presence.

I hope they are stable, and the battery life is atleast 1 year, and offer decent mmwave zones and configurations through the M3 hub.

Super excited also!!! Hopefully they release it soon, since last year they released their new products in August 2024. But seems to be a late 2025 release :frowning:

They’ve just selected testers, so hopefully we should see a release in the coming months

Still seems to be available on both the German & Italian Amazon sites. Probably other Amazon sites too (but not UK - I already checked) Amazon.de

Seems to be on the US site.

It’s available in Australia: https://www.aqarastore.com.au/products/aqara-presence-multi-sensor-fp300.

For my Eastern European brethren, I could get it only here
They have only 50 for now.

Does anyone know if it can avoid false detection from ceiling fans?

According to the demos and documentation I have seen, there supposed to be “AI learning” feature which can teach it to avoid such false positives.

Do we really need an Aqara hub to connect the FP300 via Zigbee? Or can I use my usual Zigbee coordinator connected to HA?

That was the same thing they advertised for fpi1e but it keeps losing presence detection after a while with the ceiling fan turned on.
I wonder if they’ve improved it with this version

Aqara say this for all of their Zigbee devices. I don’t see why the FP300 would be any different.

The only hitch might be that it is Thread-enabled by default and a firmware update/change will be needed to put it into Zigbee mode. This was the case for the newer T2 bulbs and I needed to use the Aqara app to change the firmware and then the device could be added to my Zigbee network in the usual way.

Video reviews that I have watched today confirm the above.

I have ordered one from Aqara’s Australian store (link above) so will report back, once I have it and have paired it with my Zigbee coordinator, with the entities that show up in ZHA.

I got mine today and being trying it out. Was stumped at first as Z2M did not detect it and could not add to Matter. Did a search and found you need the Aqara app to set it up and you choose Thread or Zigbee and then it installs whichever firmware over Bluetooth. Seems to work ok, presence is pretty good and still trying out all the AI features (even with Z2M):

The battery reporting 76% on your first day has me worried a bit. Please post an update on whether it’s holding up whenever you can.

I was at 80% when I joined it with Z2M, I did set the interval quite low so I’ll put that back to default

EDIT, it now shows 100% !

Does not work with ZHA. Only Temp Humidity and Light Sensors work. No Presence sensor is exposed. Battery and all other device info e.g. firmware version show as 0 or “Unknown”.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like we might need a custom quirk which can hopefully be based on the FP2/FP1E.
