It’s actually on Amazon now to purchase. I just grabbed a couple.
Here’s a detailed teardown and review of the FP2 and comparison with the FP1
I am sorry, but I thought the advantage of the homekit controller on HA is that I do not need an extra hub when the device is supporting homekit? I did understand the review that this is possible without any extra hub, just for the extra zones/entities I would need the app - which actually is not needed after initial setup anymore.
According to this review (and despite what someone was insisting earlier in this thread), you do NOT appear to need an aquara hub to pair this with Home Assistant. That’s good news.
Yup, no hubs are needed to add it via the HomeKit Controller Integration. You can even delete the app afterwards, it will still work with Home Assistant. However, when I cut the internet to the device, it goes offline and doesn’t report anything. So it appears it’s still reliant on the cloud. I will tinker some more
It does seem to add to the app fine and then once configured it shows in HA as a Home Kit device. When adding to HA through this method you are presented with 5 entities:
So I’m not sure how you could use it yet to its full potential?
Apologies for the last comment in a way, as I now have figured out how you can fully utilise the sensor using HA.
Each time you create an a presence area in the app (be it dining table, bed, etc.) then those areas appear in HA as presence sensors. So you can then tailor the presence to those areas individually using automations.
I just ordered a couple of these to test out. All I need is HomeKit controller and the Aqara App to use the Fp2 to its full potential? No Aqara hub? if I’m understanding this thread correctly.
Pretty sure you don’t need the Homekit controller… You will need to connect the FP2 via WiFi 2.4GHz to Home Assistant using the . You will also need the Aqara app to define the areas etc… I believe you can have up to sixty! With number, I suspect you would get a lot of cross-area triggering. Certainly looks promising.
Some question on interference, say if you have a ceiling fan in center of the bedroom, just above the bed.
If you exclude that ceiling fan area, then it might not detect person on the bed?
HomeKit controller is the name of the home assistant integration used to connect to it.
Reed from Smart Home Solver made a great video of the FP2 here: https://youtu.be/yarollsdao4
Wished I had the funds to purchase it… Cost SG$159 (roughly USD120) here in Singapore. Need to settle my home restoration first, it caught fire February 1st 2023

According to Reeds video, if you use the HomeKit controller you can’t access the zones feature.
Wow that price is insane! Sorry to hear such terrible news about your home
Its actually pretty good. My only issue with it is that I can’t have it in the Aqara Home app and Home Assistant at the same time.
On iOS you add it to the aqara app which then forces you to add it to the Home app. I think if you have an android you won’t run into this as it doesn’t have the Home app. The issue is that, to add it to HA I have to remove it from the Home app (which removes it from the Aqara app) so it is in a state where it still has the wifi network details but not the Homekit association.
The problem is, anytime I want to modify the zones or anything to configure it, I have to remove it from HA, add back to the Aqara app and then make any changes, remove it from the Aqara app and add it to back to HA. A big pain.
If anybody else knows how to get around this please share.
I’m trying to find my android tablet to see if I can get around this requirement.
Thank for the Info. I’m so looking forward to receiving these, the video links makes this thing look amazing.
someone commented on reeds video this:
To add the FP2 to Home Assistant you need to do the following steps:
I don’t use homekit at all so not sure if this will work for me.
Bam that did it. Awesome thank you.
Now i have it in HA and in the Aqara app. If I add a zone in aqara app it instantly shows up as a HA sensor.
wow thats awesome. i’m buying one today then. do we need to use homekit?
