Aqara new people presence sensor FP2

True, that is a methodology you could apply by installing a distance sensor (or closely aimed PIR motion sensor) in the door opening. First signal = entering room. Second signal = leaving the room.

However, that only works with 1 person in the house. It’s therefore not something i would recommend. It is very prone to error.

Have you tested if your setup if you block internet?

Hi Joachi, all/most of your questions are answered in this topic. I would advice you to read the topic from top to bottom, it will give you a good idea of what is possible.

This device is wifi-based and works -by design- without the Aqara Hub.

This topic contains a lot of valuable information, i would like to encourage you to read it

Well its not much help. The question is if I block internet, how much of the settings can be used in HA f.ex To be more specific, do the automations created in the app work with blocked internet?

Hi Yuran, your question was generic, so you got a generic answer. Answers like “well its not much help” are not really helping in keeping a friendly atmosphere.

Comming back to your follow-up question: i don’t know about automations created in the aqara app.
But seeing these repsonses below, the generic trend is that the app is not working without internet.

My best guess is that automations created in the Aqara app won’t work either. Perhaps someone else can tell you. My automations are all done within Home Assistant, so i’m not depending on the Aqara app anyway.

Well now I get the answers I wanted, which for me means it not more useful than the EP1 I already have because none of my IoT has or will have internet access. Thanks

Yeah, i was doubting myself too a lot whether to buy the EP1 or the Aqara FP2. Apart from the initial setup, the FP2 is not dependent on the cloud. But that initial setup is definitely a drawback.
Perhaps i’ll buy an EP1 too to experiment. Main reasons not to buy to EP1 were the initial shipping prices (which have been reduced lately) and the ugly housing. The FP2 looks much more elegant imo.

I have 5 EP1 that works great. I dont notice them anymore. I would think the difference in apperance depends on that the PIR sensor must be visuable and economic resources.

Nice thing is that development pace seems to be crazy fast. It feels like were on the start of a revolution. In a couple of yours from now, we will likely have incognito recessed in-ceiling mmwave sensors, both at work and at home. Exciting times!

you are right. Even if I only have 2 years to 70 I very much enjoy the development. Only cloud may be the AI that we need to get control of. Otherwise no one knows what can happen.

yes i have read the topic from top to bottom and i also know it works without the aqara hub, my thought is this, you need something to integrate it with HA
most people tend to do it with Homekit, and that will give you some sensors but not all of them that you can find in the aqara app and therefore also should be able to get picked up by the aqara hub, so if i would have an aqara hub could i integrate it with HA to get more sensors than i would with the Homekit setup.
Also if you integrate it with Alexa you get access to presence during time that you dont get with the homekit integration. so its not a qustion of how to do it, but more if you can get more out of this sensor depending on what integration you use and which integration gets the most

I think that you could solve duration time in Home Assistant by templating it. All information for that is available. See below two printscreens of a closed timeframe and an ’ open’ timeframe (’‘open’ because it is currently still at “not present”) .

edit: stuff like “presence time” are calculated values that can be derived from the real sensor data. That real sensor data is coming in via Homekit Controler. I’m not aware of any other real sensor data that is not coming in via the Homekit Controler, but perhaps i’m overlooking something.

It took me a while to fully grasp your question joachi, sorry!

It would indeed be intereseting to have a list of exposed sensors, both for Alexa and Homekit and the Aqara App. Based on those differences, we could determine if those are all calculated values or ‘real’ sensor data (the latter would indicate that we miss out on something, the first would indicate we can template it).

According to Aqara, automations from within the Aqara App should work locally.

Yea I read that too but it is not clear if its true.

Anyone running into issues with the Homekit integration not syncing with HA? In the Aqara app it’s showing presence, but in HA none is detected. I have to reload the integration to get it to work again.

Yes, I have seen this a few times. In my case, the FP2’s Illuminance and Overall Presence sensors were still being properly updated in Home Assistant. But, the user defined Zone Presence sensors were all stuck. Rebooting the Aqara FP2 and my HA Yellow had no effect in changing this behavior. I eventually went into the Aqara app and edited each of the user-defined zones. That finally got the data flowing again. Not sure if that indicates that the issue is on the FP2 firmware side or not. This is the first time I have used the HA HomeKit Controller integration, and thus I do not know how reliable it typically is.

You just saved me at least half of the weekend with that. I have only noticed that the FP2 is not listed within devices on router and was wondering why is it so and it that isn’t causing FP2 not detecting movement occasionaly. Thank you!

I’m still struggling to understand the purpose of exit and entrance zones. Do they help to better manage the situation when a person leaves the room (sort of blind spot)?

Yeah I think the exit/entrance zones are designed so that the sensor can tell you have left the room properly.
