Aqara S1E Magic Switch - WORKING in Home Assistant (Android)

Ok I just ordered the Aqara S1E Magic Switch on Aliexpress $53 CAD ($38 USD)

Check out the video, I’m VERY excited. (will most likely NOT fit a standard North American electrical box but I can custom make a two gang box to fit this and drywall around it to hide the gap)

Works on 120V - CONFIRMED

Aqara Hub - Not required

Connection to Home Assistant is a bit complex, but doable. Follow THIS GUIDE:

UPDATE - Switch arriveth ! and is installed in a temporary NA housing, albeit it would not pass code. Oh well.

connected via the Aqara App, then I used the following post to connect it to HA

That took a bit of effort, but it worked no flashing, no soldering nothing.

I created a few “soft” buttons and programmed one of them to control a kitchen light from the Magic Switch.

It works !!! (I don’t plan to use the physical switches to anything)

for the people trying to pair the newer versions with an iPhone… it now mandates it to be part of a Home… so in apple Home I created a new Home… added the S1E to that one… finished the install wizard…

then back in apple Home - deleted the home… which caused the device to be configured but Home Unbound… then from HA added the Home Device and it found it … added and all working now

Hello!
I am planning on adding this to my home, I just have a couple of questions, does it work in a US home?
And can you use an English language ok everything, I sometimes see Chinese language.
Thank you

I see Chinese for a few things, but after the setup, there is enough usage in English to be really useful for my needs

YannisF > Tks for sharing your setup. I’m thinking of doing the same. I read somewhere that the Magic Switch S1E is 220v. Can you confirm it is also compatible for 110v for use in N. America?

Also, did you also pair the S1E to an Aqara hub? If so, which model?

Tks in advance.

Hi thefys, i also bought the s1e, but i don’t know how to add it to HA, can you help me out thx!

I was wondering does it just expose the buttons you define via the Aqara app or is it also possible to completely hijack it and display e.g. home assistant dashboards?

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been tempted myself to try and even more now that you mentioned the 120V working in the US. The concern is not fitting into an existing box as you had to modify yours. I don’t have benefit of being able to modify so may have to wait to see if they release a US version . The Aqara S1+ does also look very high.

You can 3D print cover for type 86 switch
Or if you have access to taobao.com there is existing cover plate for sale.

If you does not care about code (you are trying to use a type 86 switch why still care about code)
Do can straight finish the switch using a type 86 electrical box
For me it is worth because it good looking compare to US switch

This is music to my ears, I was thinking about getting at least one to do some testing but looks like I can just go for it :+1::+1::+1:. Thank you

One quick question on the magic button, from the website it looks like you can have a “dimmer” type of button, (say for example I wanted to use one of the buttons to speed my smart fan up/down), is that right or have I misread/understood that? I hope so as this will literally tick every box I could possibly want (well until I come up with another idea :grimacing::grimacing:).

Definitly works with 110V !

Did NOT pair it with the Aqara hub

If you need an electrical box for NA these work
