I have smart lights from 4 different manufactures: Philips Hue. Sengled Third Reality Aqara I have been testing how they handle transitions between brightness levels and colors. TL;DR - With respect to the flash issue (when using Zigbee2MQTT) Third Reality bulbs were the least “quirky”, Aqara were the worst.

TR have there own set of issues - just not this one.

I was able to mitigate the flash by sending a pure blue 1% brightness command before turning the bulbs off, however in the end the cure was worse than the problem so I just went back to living with the flash.
