Aqia Connections

I recently purchased some Aqia sensors. First off, the only way to do anything with them was to download the Tuya App which kinda negates the whole Home Assistant thing. Secondly, it would connect but wouldn’t change the state of the sensor (door sensor). I’m not sure why, or how, or how to get Aqia products to work with Home Assistant, especially if I have to use a third party app the entire time anyways?

Do you mean Aqara?

If they’re Zigbee sensors, you’ll need a USB coordinator and one of the two integrations (ZHA or Z2M) to use them.

If you didn’t buy the zigbee type but the wifi ones, then it’s expected to have to use some 3rd party app or cloud to get access to your data.

That’s exactly why it’s basically recommended to not buy wifi IoT for use in HA

Aqia is the Microcenter brand. I returned them because they weren’t doing anything and I don’t want to download a ton of apps.

I’m assuming, because I keep seeing the Zigbee protocol pop up, if I get any brand that has that protocol, all I need to do is download something on HA on HA?
