Are purpose built Zigbee repeaters any better than a standard Zigbee device?

I have an issue with a few Zigbee devices that will disconnect occasionally.

I’m thinking about adding this:

but I’m not sure if this has any benefit over adding a standard device like a smart switch that acts as a router.

Would it be just as good to add some more switches?

It looks prettier.
However it functions the same as a good smart plug but doesn’t turn your lamp or nightlight on as well.

Sometimes the antenna is a bit better, but not much and it is probably better to use extra devices that do something besides routing, because you will then have more options.

The answer is a bit more diverse then looks prettier and it works the same as a good smart plug. Although this is correct there is a huge difference and that is the size of the available routing table. And for a backbone router like this you are better off with a large routing table.
