I got Assist up and running today and it’s really neat! I confirmed its functionality on my windows laptop and an android phone. I was fiddling with the settings for the Assist being my ‘default digital assistant app’ and decided against it so I turned it back to the default Google.
I went back into Home Assistant a few minutes later and I am now no longer able to use the microphone to talk to the Assist. If I type something into the prompt and get a response it also doesn’t play the response through the phone’s speaker. I tried clearing cache, data, and force stopping the app. I have tried reinstalling, rebooting the phone. I was able to exactly reproduce this with another phone that was previously working with Assist as well.
There is something about the setting Assist as the default companion app that breaks the audio system for Assist.
I am still able to ‘test’ the Assist voice and can hear it in the Voice Assistants settings menu. I cannot bring either phone back to a functional state. The windows PC is still able to use the Assist.
I can navigate to an Assist prompt using google chrome app on both phones and the microphone/speaker works fine on that.
I can see that no audio is making it to the wyoming/whisper log anymore. Both phones present that the microphone is in use when I click the microphone icon to start speaking.
Any ideas to fix these devices? Very bizzare.
Have tried reinstalling and restarting phones and still unable to use them. Started using Ava for now and it works while the screen is off on my alternate, always-on phone. However I do not want to run that on my main phone and still want access to home assistant Assist on-demand on my main device. Hoping someone who has come across this issue can help.
