Hi all,
I am setting up home assistant on an android tablet. I have successfully set up voice assistant and I can start a conversation either with button card on my dashboard, the assist icon on the top right of the screen or via wake word (Automation with Tasker).
I would like to set up the tablet somewhere in the living room so people can interact with it. If find the voice assistant super useful but I find the assist ui with text input a bit cumbersome for the use case. Whenever the voice assistant activates, the home assistant ui goes out of fullscreen mode and shifts downwards. If I want to end the conversation with assist, I have to press on the screen a second time. Also in my scenario I am not really interested in the text output. The UI of Assist doesn’t fit in with the UI of the dashboard.
Is it possible to converse with the voice assistant without the assist ui? I would like to give a command or ask a question without showing the assist text dialog. For example, when pressing the button on the dashboard, the voice assistant would listen and react to commands and would then automatically stop listening after x seconds. Ideally during this time the button card on the dashboard would have a different color, indicating that the voice assistant is active and listening.
Would something like this be possible to do?
This is how the dashboard looks like when I activate Assist.
Thanks for your replies!
