Assist on Homepod not working

I have “Hey Siri, Assist” working on my iPhone and Apple Watch, but when I try it on a Homepod mini it doesn’t work. The first time I tried it I got the “How can I assist?” prompt, but my request to turn on the lights didn’t take effect. After the first time, I no longer get the “How can I assist?” prompt, instead the lights flash a bit and I get the “bee-boop” sound on the Homepod and it stops listening.

Update: I restarted my phone and it worked exactly once, then went back to the same behavior
Any suggestions? Is this working for others?

I am having the same problem, but actions are taking place correctly.

  • “Hey Siri, Assist”
  • “How can i assist?”
  • “Turn on the study light”
    < Light comes on>
  • “bee-boop”

Having the same problem with custom automations.

Running on Home Assistant 2024.7.0
