The documentation on this subject seems completely wrong and utterly confusing to me: Assist on Android
In bullet point #2 it says:
2. If it(*Assist*) does not (*appear automatically*), visit your watch companion app or the Wear OS app and select **Add tile** inside the **Tiles** area.
(The italic inside the parathesis was added by me)
First of all, there’s no such thing as a “watch companion App” on my Samsung Gear S3 and there’s no such App anywhere to be found in the Google Play Store. But the Wear OS App I have, installed and running on my Galaxy S23 phone, which is paired with my watch. But there’s no option inside the Wear OS App named Add tile and there’s no area named Tiles.
How would I know? The watch came originally with a companion phone App named ‘GEAR’ which was later discontinued and replaced by an App named ‘WEAR’. This is now the only one available on Play Store and I’m using it to control my watch. Everything else works well using this WEAR App on my phone.
No, that this feature/functionality only works with WearOS.
Perhaps that’s obvious, but it wasn’t for me as I wasn’t aware that my watch doesn’t run WeareOS despite the fact that the phone App I’m using with is called WEAR.
Confusing?
Call me picky but “Wear OS” is written 4 time in the first 4 sentences, plus there is a video and screenshots that, I suspect, don’t match your watch at all
That is perfect! Thank you so much. Help at last
No need for me to feel stupid just because I had never heard of Tizen before. But then, I have no idea what OS runs inside my coffee machine either…
If it is any consolation: Samsung watch 4 and onwards are no longer running Tizen but are in fact running WEAR OS. They use the same app, which is probably why the name was changed to (Galaxy) Wear. It all adds to the confusion.
So if you ever decide to upgrade your watch to a newer version, you can use the official Wear OS companion app.
