Athom/IoTorero Smart Plugs (Reliability / Lifetime / Time to failure) [please contribute]

They are with the relay, because I wanted to have the possibility for power-off. And there is a measurement device.

Device died, and I don’t know why. Honestly I didn’t try to debug. There were no physical damage visible tho.

I bought these: https://www.athom.tech/blank-1/eu-wall-socket-for-esphome

I have 5 without relay - all working fine since oct 2024.

For smartplugs in general i have not had any fail on me, and I have some Verisure smart plugs that still work after 10 years use. The maximum load has been 2kW, electric water heater (now replaced with Aeotec Heavy duty switch), all others max 500W.

I took the easy way out and stopped updating ESPHome after 2025.4.2.
I haven’t had any plugs go offline since.

Old topic but my 2021 plugs are still very much alive in 2026. I’ve got 6 of these (old) plugs.

Last year my spare/test plug had a frozen relay, replaced the relay and it’s working again like a charm.

Similar experience here; four Athom (old version) plugs from 2023; all working fine still.

Yes me too, they work perfectly!

Fleet of 12; half v2 which have been working for three or four years. No heavy duty jobs though.

Statement: Since November 2024, all internal relays in the plugs have been replaced with Hongfa brand 16A relays, and the core capacitors have been replaced with Aishi brand capacitors. These two brands are considered leading brands in the industry.

Like many other posters, my TP-Link HS110 power plugs have survived five years, while the newer models seem to have shorter and shorter lives.
Presumably it is primarily because manufacturers are using cheaper lower quality components to be competitive … but how much is our the preference for ever more compact units (smaller size = more heat, especially if mounted right next to each other) ?

Aiden, I think I misread your post and assumed that you have replaced the relays and capacitors in your own Athom units.

Do you have official information that Athom have upgraded their components ? In all models, or just the american ones ?

Well, one of the images above shows an AU socket, so evidently not just Americanos.

We can’t tell if it’s Australian. It might be Chinese or Argentinian. Both use similar plug/socket design with some minor differences.

Unless it shows its ANZ certification and stamped with an RCM symbol then they are not Australian.

Feel free to add to this discussion;)

All plugs have had their relays and capacitors replaced since November 2024.

With confirmation of component upgrades, I’m going to give these another go (despite certification).

Purchased July 2026.

ESP32-C3 AU Plug Made For ESPHome

Hi,
I’m afraid I can’t recommend the AthomTech brand!
My 16A plug broke after 5 months, and customer service is unwilling to send a replacement—stay away from it!

Best regards
