I was wondering if there is an open source/paid platform (not overly expensive) that would allow the following:
Let’s say I have a few media devices like a TV, PC, media player, etc and a set of players/speakers throughout the house.
What would be the best way to be able to play the audio from different sources, on different locations and choose on which speakers/players I want them to play. Also for example being able to choose the audio output from the television and listen to them on a wired headset.
Some sort of a virtual bus (via ethernet, over IP) where different input/output options are available for audio.
I know of AmpliPi - Home Audio System — MicroNova, but that’s more of a central system, where I would like to pick up audio on different locations to be able to share and stream them to different speakers/locations.
Does something like this exists?
Thanks a lot.

LMS with RaspberryPis, running PiCore Player, with a DAC HAT, controlled by Squeezer, an open source app.
LMS can be integrated by either the official integration or with the Web view card (which I use).
Sonos can’t hold a candle to it.
Thanks for both recommendations, I’ve been looking into them and will add those to my comparison board
Has anyone any experience with arylic?
It looks like a good option as well with lots of input and output possibilities.
Also this allows for extensions etc.
Curious to hear your thoughts on this one.
I haven’t heard of Arylic but their modules are similar to many others available.
I run LMS in a TrueNAS jail (HA, MQTT, TasmoAdmin in other jails) & use RPis running PiCore Player into active speakers. LMS has many plugins too.
Thanks for sharing your setup, sounds interesting.
One of my criteria is that each location has an option for a line in and out.
For example if someone is at the door, then intercom can relay the audio to certain locations by it into one line in and broadcasting this to different locations. The same for audio and location from the pc(s) and media players in the house so that that audio can be fed into a board, and the speaker system near that computer.
I’ve seen that there are many boards from the
HifiBerry brand. Is there one you could suggest for this purpose?
Also the media server setup isn’t that important to me as most of the music will be streamed anyway.
