That looks like something failed dead short across the mains or possibly even lightning damage.

Completely different to @exxamalte’s failure mode.

Certainly possible as we have had storms (no one was home so not sure exactly when it happened, due to my failed non-updated notification code) and given that two failed during the same period.

Is that a blown resistor?

Seen this before, in badly made devices from certain countries, and also once in high end equipment mostly made for the US (110V AC) but also sold in Australia.
IMHO, its flash-over from something like contamination on the PCB material or insufficient copper etching leaving small traces of copper on the board in the mains voltage areas, and or a flashover event when humidity and dust combine enough with that.

I should add, I’m sure it will buff out

A friend of mine has a Roborock S5 (maybe an S6?) that he loves. Hasn’t connected to his HA yet, but apparently you can.

Did you get anywhere on this one ?

Zemismart downlights are on special. Work with Tuya-convert

Thanks, I’m looking at the roborock S5 max. Didn’t now it was a Xiaomi, so I gather it should work with the Home Assistant Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum integration.

Yep. I think its Xiaomi’s ‘premium’ line on robot vacuums—I understand others have had success the Mi Robot Vacuum integration,

I haven’t yet dabbled in smart lights, but this is tempting - thanks for the heads up!

I’ve obviously seen the name around, is it fair to assume Zemismart are well respected?

Any specific views on Zigbee vs Wifi? (i.e. not personal preference but is there any notable difference in terms of functionality between them?)

I don’t have any Zigbee lights, only Zigbee sensors so can’t compare. These Zemismart lights have been good for me so far, running ESPhome on them. The only thing I have noticed is that they can’t go down to quite as deep red colours as my LED strips so when grouped together and the colour is set really low brightness, deep red, the Zemismart downlight basically turns off while the LED strip stays on. In general I don’t think people would normally run them at this level though.

Thanks, I’ll do a bit more research after work (hopefully they’re still on special) and maybe even pick up 1x wifi and 1x zigbee to get my foot in the door!

I mainly use Zigbee light, dimmers and sensors with Zigbee2Mqtt.
Main differences I have found are:
Some devices work as routers and extend your zigbee mesh network.
Devices can be bound, ie a dimmer and light so if HA/Zigbee2Mqtt fails, they all keep working (Great for WAF).
Dimmers/switchs can be placed anywhere and are extremely low power.
Other things to note: Not all bulbs are made the same. Sengled for example don’t dimm as well as Phillips, and don’t function as Routers.

My beef with Zigbee lights (IKEA Tradfri) is that they turn on after a power outage.

I have 2x Roborocks - an S6 and and S5 Max, on different floors. But I believe they’ve updated the firmware now to be able to save different floors.

I have connected them to HA after obtaining the token for each from the backup of my iphone.
This enables communication between the device and HA, and status info - but not reading of realtime position or the map. To get these, the vaccuum needs to be rooted (which I’ve read is ‘low risk’, but haven’t tackled it yet).

What I have done with my current set up is create a script to vaccuum specific rooms, by sending coordinates (which was a process involving sending the vaccuum to specific coordinates, and plotting them on a floorplan to get the right scaling), and linked a couple of these to Google Home routines, so I can send the vaccuum by voice.

The opposite of Lifx. they all turn on after an outage. Simple enough to detect a return of mains power then set a day or night scene depending on occupancy.

Except that LIFX lights often do not come back even after a HA restart. I’ve retired 20 already

Great deal! Are people able to use the power monitoring of these Gen2 Kogan plugs in HA for triggers?

And if so, does this require flashing, or will it work with just the standard connection through the Kogan account and Google Home?

I’ve got a Conbee and would jump on Zigbee smart plugs with power monitoring if I could find them, but this price will be difficult to match.

I have the Xiaomi power plugs which pretend to have power consumption but it’s useless. The Kogan smart plugs with 2 USB are great so far. But I can’t attest to longevity.
