Hi Team,

I can’t recommend any zigbee ones in Australia. I couldnt find any either once i started looking. But that was after i had already been using wifi plugs for several years with great success.
Do they need to be zigbee & have you considered wifi instead.
I don’t know if they are still sold any more but i purchased around a dozen of these Kogan Smarterhome plugs (model KASPEMHUSBA). These are the best smart plugs i ever bought because they are flashable but more importantly their size allows for two side-by-side in one of our narrow-arse double power points. Every other smart plug i ever purchased from any & every other brand are too wide for effective use a double power point, if you want to plug something else into the other side. Why is that!! It’s so frustrating. Are our power points way more narrow that in other countries or do other people experience this frustration too?
I found WIFI device to be slow in responding. i will try
I have owned a few of those Kogan KASPEMHUSBA which I flashed with ESPHome, however I have had 3 of them fail on me. Mostly just after 12 months (so no warranty).
The weird thing is the USB part still works, but the power socket just no longer works and pressing the button does nothing.
I am also sure the latest versions of the firmware means you can’t flash them OTA. So I haven’t purchased any more of these.
I have one zigbee aqara which seems to work fine, but I haven’t purchased any more. I also have some Wifi TPLink (HS100) ones which have worked fine for over 3 years (but are large and block the other powerpoint).
Hi Stephan have you sourced anything yet?
I have been using zigbee smart plugs (without power metering) for a few years - directly now controlling them with Alexa’s inbuilt zigbee.
They have been fantastic. They control hi power loads like pool pumps and heaters
So I would love to add power monitoring as this would give me feedback as to whether they were actually on or not and notifications on power use etc
How are you going on your quest? thanks!
I realise that this is late to the party, however due to this not having an answer I thought I’d throw my 2c in.
I found these, zigbee2mqtt supports them too.
ikuu power point
The USB part is completely separate as it needs to be isolated from the mains. The wifi section is not isolated because of the way they measure power consumption. That’s why one area can fail while the other is working fine.
I have just bought these. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004769177645.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.4.21ef18025XvYjc
Tuya Zigbee Smart Socket AU Plug seems to do everything you need.
These look perfect. Any idea if they act as repeaters for the zigbee mesh?
Just be aware that those are not certified for use in Australia so if your house burns down and the insurance company figures it out they were the cause… not covered. In that case you would just hope those sockets were obliterated beyond identification.
They act as repeaters. Is it a fact they are “not certified”?
You can search for yourself but likely nothing has changed since I said that previously.

Sure over 3 years now allowed to exist on our market (in large quantities) at very reputable dealers… even Amazon.com and nobody at Electrical standards seems to care - let alone and OH&S officers : go figure…
No matter
I’ll get something that complies
What about these, I’m hunting for some and found this. A bit pricey though.
