Automate Battery Charging

Hi,

I am very new to HA. I could see the potential to automate things with HA, so I bought myself a HA Green as Christmas present.

I am using Octopus Energy UK as energy provider, with Agile tarrifs for electricity import and export.

I have Sunsynk inverter and battery (10kWh). It seems I could only recharge the battery at a rate of 2kWh maximum, so that it will normally requires 4 to 5 hours to fully charge the battery.

Currently I have integrations of Octopus Energy and SunSynk configured on HA, so that I could see both import and export tarrifs for today and tomorrow, and also current readings from the inverter.

Is there any way to automate the battery charging settings, so that the inverter will be configured to recharge the battery during the lowerest tarrif period (it will be 5 hours period, I am expecting the automation will pick up charging sessions adding up to 5 hours in total automatically)?

Appreciate if anyone could advise how should I start making this automation possible. Thanks.

So I have a similar setup and searching for the same solution. Sunsynk 8kWh invertor +7.4 kWh solar + 15kWh batteries + 15kW ASHP + Octopus Agile tariff + RPi 3b HA. Been manually adjusting tariffs, but keen to use the Sunsynk remote access, the Octopus account and my setup to optimise battery charging during the night and forecast sun hours / electricity consumption, discharge during peak 4-8pm in an optimum way.

I have seen various dongles or dedicating a RPi to SolarAssistant, but thought that using data already there may be a better option. I’d welcome any suggestions.
