Automate sliding doors?

Does anyone know any solution for an automated sliding door solution? The doors are quite light, made of glass. Im looking for a motor that can be integrated into home assistant.

Its not the motor you integrate into HA, but the control circuit of it.
Some motors come with a connected control circuit and that might make it hard to use other control circuits, but many motors can be connected to a wide range of control circuits and that could be ESPHome devices too.
You need a motor that can actually move the door and some way to sense its location.
A stepper motor can report how many rotations it has done, so the control circuit can know the position, but it could also be a standard DC or AC motor with sensors for each end positions.
With a stepper motor you can reduce the speed when nearing the end positions, which can be harder with a standard DC or AC motor, so with a standard DC or AC motor you need to make sure the door can handle the maybe sudden stops at the end positions.

Also be aware that a sliding door might be heavier than you think for a motor, so it might need do draw some power and that means you need a motor driver module in the control circuit that might be pretty big physically.

Sounds like a build your own solution. What about some I’ve kits seen that start at $300 and go up into the thousands

Anyone have experience with those?

has anyone integrated them into home assistant?

i love to tinker and make stuff but sometimes there just isn’t enough time with everything else going on.

There is also a limit because the person I want to do this for has ALS and don’t know how much time is left.

did you land on a solution?

I did not. To expensive and bulky.

Someone in my local ha group shared a demo how he used curtain motors for the sliding doors with a custom bracket, quite ingenious I might add.

It’s a private group. I’ll just share the video here
Not in english entirely, but it’s pretty straightforward
