Automation assistance - first time

I am new user of HA and this will be the first automation I would have done.

I want to switch on a shelly relay (for pump on pool) when the power level exceeds a certain level of solar generated power.

Here is what I have done so far. I have to use NEGATIVE setting on meter(I think) as that is free power available to be consumed, that otherwise would be returned to grid. (it reports in negative numbers when sending to grid)

Basically my question is have I done this correctly and is there any feedback on dashboard its working correctly ?

I want this automation to be running permanently so every time there is sufficient power the pump comes on.

Close. -4000 is below -2000, not above.

Hi, Yes but the power taken from grid is a negative value when its supplying the electric grid.

so I want the switch to be on at -2000w through to -5000w (max solar power). I know it’s backwards.

I set it to below. But I maybe completely wrong in this

See first photo, - have set it to below -2000W

ok shelly switch turns on

when power reading is below -2000w

But does not turn off when power is above this point, 0w -2000w

You didn’t ask it to — don’t assume it does anything more than exactly what you tell it. Create a second automation to switch off when the sensor goes above -2000W — you can combine both into a single automation, but at this early stage, having two is easier to create via the UI.

Then, as I said, you want below -2000.

Above -2000 is -1999 to + infinity.

This is a very basic mathematical concept.

-2000 is below 0.

-5000 is below -2000.

From first screen shot, I have set it to below.

Fair point.

I have created a second automation.

thanks
