Automation challenges for Tapo C101 Camera

I am trying to setup an automation using my Tapo C101 camera, and I think the triggers that are part of the Tapo integration camera are limited to just reacting to when certain features are turned “off” or “on” in the app for the camera. I was hoping that I would be able to use the camera’s motion detection itself as a trigger, but I am pretty sure that it doesn’t work that way.

For example, in the screenshot, the trigger specifically says “Motion Detection Turned On”. It very literally works when I turn on the motion detection feature. I guess that has some uses, but I was looking to drive actions based on the motion detection detecting activity. Am I missing something or is this just how it works?

Appreciate any help/guidance as I am also new to the platform.

It should work that way, I use motion triggers on my Tapo cameras. What integration are you using?

If you haven’t yet you should try GitHub - JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control: Control for Tapo cameras as a Home Assistant component

I am using the TP-Link - TAPO integration:

Is the one you mentioned on GitHub different?

Yes it’s different. Many more features and much better. Once you get it up and running it will give you the motion sensor triggers you’re after. I’ve never used the TP-Link integration so I can’t speak to the differences between the two.
