I suppose that hiding YAML code from the user is a goal of the devs, but some of us automatically change to “Edit in YAML”. I would like to see an option to always open the automation editor in YAML. If I want to edit in the UI, I can switch to UI mode in the editor. If I want to always open the editor in UI, then I could change my default option.

I agree. If yaml editing is your thing, and this is particularly true for technical users of Home Assistant, it is a pain to switch each time you go in to edit. If working on a set oi automations and scripts that are interacting, it does become anoying. Also this would stop HA feeling your automation has changed, which it does if you have a complex automation that the GUI cant display correctly, it always taggs it as changed, even if you have not.
