Automation on Backup or Update

Hello,
As I am running Home Assistant in a Proxmox VM, I would like to trigger an automation to make a snapshot when/before I update Home Assistant.

I already have OliveTin whihc can trigger Proxmox snapshots, but I was wondering if there is a event I could isten to from Home Assitant that would allow to automatically make a snapshot.

So the question is how to detect a backup has started or an update is being applied?

I don’t know if that’s possible, but I’m wondering as to how this would ever work…

  1. You see an update in HA
  2. You click the update
  3. The update starts, some event (hopefully) is being fired
  4. You have an automation that triggers on that event, it starts Proxmox backup, but… At the same time the update of HA is already ongoing! So the backup would have to be done in the middle of the update [?].

I guess you would have to somehow pause the HA update, make the Proxmox snapshot, resume the HA update [?].

Snapshots are near instantaneous, also by default HA would also backup first so that would delay the update long enough.

So what I am looking for is the event notification that a back uphas started so I can make a snapshot at the same time.
Alternatively I could use the update notifiation, but it is a bit more risky.
Neverthe less I have weekly backup of the HA VM but it would be more convenien to use snapshot for updates as they are so fast and easy to switch…
