Automation shown as always on

Hi there.
I’ve got an automation that starts garden watering at sunrise. It starts some shell command. The separate wifi driver runs watering program on Hunter driver.
However, HA shows the automation as “running” all the time. How can I add some timer to turn off the running state after some time?

How do you mean “running”?
The automation will always show as on until you disable it. Then triggers wont activate it.
Or do you mean its looping? Can u post the automation?

May be I do not understand yo properly. but all my automations which are not disabled are ON.
They are active and waiting for a trigger.

Maybe I misunderstand the information of the history chart, I just thought that the automation will show when it released the shell command.
running
Do I understand, that it just shows the state of automation, is it active or disabled?

Yes, on/off shows the (in)active state (being executed or not when a trigger & condition is met) and not whether it is running.

The automation’s current attribute tells you if the automation is currently executing actions. It’s idle if the value is zero and busy if the value is 1 (or greater).
