Automation working and then not - best editor?

Hi –

I am running into issues where I have an automation that was working and I made some tweaks and then it doesn’t I am not sure if there is a blank space counting as a character. I try to make tweaks using Notepad++ and then paste back in. As an example I was using this as test (kitchen light) since its near my home office and then I updated and it would not work if I specified 2 lights. Then I re-pasted back into HA the original test (kitchen lights) and that was not working. If I have to use directly within HA that’s fine. but I thought Notepad++ was safe bet.

Do automation have to be stored in same file or can they be in separate files like packages?

Automations can be in packages.
