Hi everyone! ![]()
Our son was born a few weeks ago. During the 3 a.m. feedings I wanted something simpler than a phone app that only one parent remembers to open, so I built Baby Tracker: a custom integration that keeps everything inside Home Assistant.
What it does
- Bottles + incremental feedings. Each feeding adds to the current bottle, so “1 oz now, 1.5 oz later” lands in the same bottle. You start a new bottle only when you actually prepare one, and anything over the bottle size moves to the next bottle automatically. It tracks amount per feeding, feedings per day, % of bottles finished and wasted formula.
- Breast milk. Pumping sessions (left/right) go into a stash with expiry (fridge or room temperature). When you give breast milk, you pick the stash bottle you used and it’s deducted. A formula bottle can be paused while the baby has breast milk first, then resumed.
- Diapers. Pee, poop or both, with color and consistency (your baby’s “usual” is preselected).
- Pediatrician’s plan. Amount per feeding and interval set the daily goal and when the reminder fires.
- Growth. Weight, length and head circumference, with charts.
- Charts by day, week or month, including when the baby usually eats and needs a change.
- Several babies (twins!), oz or ml, English and Spanish (follows each user’s language).
Logging without opening anything
This is what made it stick at our house:
- A Zigbee button by the changing table. Each press adds 0.5 oz to the current bottle, and holding it starts a new bottle. A minute later every parent’s phone gets a summary with Undo / Edit buttons.
- A reminder N hours after the last feeding. You can answer from the notification, including typing the real time if you forgot to log it.
- Voice (optional): say it to a to-do list (e.g. Alexa’s) and an AI integration turns “he drank two ounces of breast milk at 5” into an entry.
- “Breast milk about to expire” alert with Use / Move to fridge / Discard.
All of these are blueprints with one-click import buttons in the README, so you choose your own button, phones and lists.
Under the hood
- One SQLite file per baby in
/config, included in HA backups. A copy is made automatically before any schema upgrade. - A sidebar panel, plus sensors for dashboards and automations: last and next feeding, current bottle, today vs. goal, rate, stash, diapers, weight, and more.
- Actions such as
bebe.registrar_toma(log feeding) andbebe.registrar_panal(log diaper) return responses you can use in scripts.
Install
- HACS → ⋮ → Custom repositories →
https://github.com/HertBox/ha-baby-tracker, type Integration, or use the button above. - Install Baby Tracker and restart Home Assistant.
- Settings → Devices & services → Add integration → Baby Tracker (name, birth date, oz/ml).
- Optional: import the blueprints from the README.
Requires Home Assistant 2025.4 or newer.
Not medical advice. This is a logging tool. Goals and hints are general references; feeding decisions belong to your pediatrician.
This is v1.0.0 and we use it every day. Feedback, issues and translations are very welcome. The code comments are in Spanish, but the UI is fully translated to English. ![]()
