I’m not sure how or when this happened, but for some reason I can’t run a manual UN-encrypted backup anymore. Is there some way to shut off the encryption requirement I’m seeing in the latest release? Didn’t ask for it, and don’t want it.
In todays “Building the Open House” newsletter they published this:
Right after the release shipped, it became clear that the backup feature needed more configuration options, like being able to disable encryption on certain backup locations. The community did its duty by letting the team know. Developers have been working hard on the next release, addressing many of our community’s concerns, and building this feature out. Home Assistant’s community ultimately decides the direction of this project, and that is what has made it the best smart home project in existence.

You may also want to search this forum for other posts related to backup issues. Many have noticed that activating the ‘new’ backup disables Samba Backup.
Thank you. I mean I realize why some people might want it, but I didn’t spend all that time learning network security to have to encrypt every little thing behind my firewall. Taxes, crypto keys, etc, sure. That stuff isn’t even on the network. A smart home config? Ehh, probably not the same thing.
Samba Backup and Google Backup add-ons are unencrypted.
