I am currently backing up every night at 0300. Is it possible to only run a backup if something in the configuration has changed? It seems inefficient to run a backup if nothing has changed.
You can create an automation to do this and specify the trigger(s) you want to kickoff the backup. Search this forum for “automate backup” to get some ideas.
How important is your data to you, e.g. energy history?
Because that changes every day.

I just synchronize the “config” directory to a backup copy on my NAS. That includes the database which holds the history. This limits the number of writes to my SD card, and avoids backing up anything which hasn’t changed.
I only do the native HA backup before I update something.
I did not realise that the backup included the data. I will stick with running it daily!
