Backups a little broke and a LOT broken

a little is my automatic back-ups seem to be failing…

a LOT is that I can’t tell what my last good backup was…

here is the head of the backups page:

Knowing that my last automatic backup failed is useful information. [One would argue that this condition should also trigger a Notification to be more prominate) And knowing when the last good backup was is also useful information. What is lacking is a link from here to the last good backup. But I could understand that if the following screen was better

Look at that a nice list of my backups…but what is missing …ANY indication about which backup is good and which failed!

[oh and manual back-ups seem to take FOREVER and always fail…)

In 2025.4 there is a sensor, so you can create an automation to send a notification if the backup failed.

that’s great but until I have a good backup delaying an upgrade

I never trust a single backup method. Also, I can’t use the new Nabu cloud backup because my backups are about 7Gb. Too large for the Nabu cloud.

I use Samba Backup to a shared volume on my NAS. You don’t need a full-blown NAS; a Raspberry Pi (not the one running Home Assistant) with a 2Tb USB SSD drive. I also copy my config folder to my NAS every night. (When I screw things up it’s usually a YAML configuration file).

You can also use the Google Backup add-on. I’ve never used it, but it is pretty popular.

Did you check the logs why the backup failed? Do you have enough space?

+1 for Samba backup, as long as you have something capable of serving a SMB folder over the network it will work.

Hah, when I first noticed this space was indeed a problem, I resolved that but stil have the issue

I had suggested a Pi running Samba Server. Even a Windows PC would work since when Windows shares folders it uses SMBv3.
