Basic Control Overview Help Needed

Hi, my name is Wes and I’m a noob.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on hardware and high level configuration for basic home theatre control.

Current hardware/system:

  • Plex server on Synology NAS
  • 4k Firestick as the player
  • Lutron Caseta lighting
  • Harmony Hub
  • HA on a Pi4

My short term goal is to have HA read my IR Firestick controller signals for play/pause/stop/power to adjust my lighting based on the IR signals.

Can you tell me what’s the best IR hardware for use with the Pi and what integration/add-ons I’d use to capture the IR signal. As well, how do I go about translating this into lights going up and down.

Thanks in advance for your help. I’ve spent the last day drinking from a firehose and am super impressed at what HA can do. Kudos to this community!

Not sure how useful this is, but if you’re only using the firestick for plex, you can use the Plex integration for HA to track play/pause etc. It’s not 100% reliable but may depend on hardware, and it could save you money on IR kit.

Thanks EKC. I just re-read that. Hmmm, that makes sense. It will only work for plex but… Let me think on that.
