Battery Import showing as negative bars in Energy Dashboard?

Hi friends, I’m using the Tesla Powerwall HA integration. I’ve set up the Home battery storage configuration like this which I think is pretty straightforward:

however, when I look a how that data shows up under Electricity usage, when the batteries are charging from the grid, they’re showing as negative values and as energy being returned:

meanwhile, if I look at the data from the entity itself, it’s showing what I would expect to see – occasional grown of a running total:

What am I doing wrong?

edit: Actually I see one problem – it looks like the daily total grid power usage is getting reset at the wrong time which could be screwing up the math that might be in place here – I’m going to fix that and see if this problem goes away.

I think that graph is expected.

Energy consumed is above the zero-line, energy sold/stored is below the line.

In this example, the grid is charging the batteries, so it’s a 100% consuming energy transaction. In the breakdown however it’s showing “Total returned 4.7 Kwh” which is not expected. I would expect to see that when the batteries are exporting later in the day and even then it wouldn’t be negative values, it would just displace some of what would have been coming from the grid.

That’s not how HA tracks it.

Charging batteries is considered differently than consumption. Battery discharge is counted as consumption (if you don’t sell it).

Got it, okay so at least it’s not broken. I still think “Total returned” is misleading though – it should be “Total potential to be returned” – after all if the batteries die, I’ll never get that juice back. (I’m dealing with one defective Powerwall now)
