Baxi Luna3 Comfort Air basic controls

Hi!

I’m trying to figure out if it could be possible to integrate my old boiler into Home Assistant. It’s a Baxi Luna3 Comfort Air, so it has a wireless remote but I don’t think it uses a communication protocol like OpenTherm or Modbus, or at least I can’t find any info suggesting this.
The remote offers many functions but we only really use two: temperature controls and cycling through central heating and/or domestic hot water; since the heating system turns on when the temperature reaches a given threshold, I think using a HA sensor to trigger an automation would do the work just fine.

I saw various projects with full-fledged thermostats but I was thinking about something really simple and relatively cheap that would also allow the boiler to be operated through its original remote in case of emergency.

Would it be possible to use a EspHome configuration to do so?

I have a BAXI Luna 3 Comfort (Model 1.310 Fi) and looking at the same thing. Definitely no OpenTherm, but still decent change has Modbus, plus it has basic dry contact controls.

Spoke to plumber and they said that Hive will have a compatible controller/receiver, and once we have that connected, we have a chance to connect that to Home Assistant as described here:

You need hub, controller/receiver, and thermostat, but I can’t find where you buy the controller/receiver.

There are plenty others basic controllers with Tuya Wifi support that should work with just the “Dry Contact” control on boiler.

Not sure what the best solution is!

Appears that the Hive receivers are either OpenTherm or the simple relay on/off control.

For on/off control probably any smart thermostat could be used.
