Best Audio System

Hi everyone. Im looking for a good audio/music system that allows multiroom that works with Spotify. I currently use Alexas and im familiarized with them. I have a setup where i can choose from a list of playlist that i created, also choose wich group of alexa speakers to use. I created a Spotify Account just for the house.

Im facing 2 main issues. The first one is that it takes several tries to start playing, i have to choose different playlists to start spotify. The second issue is that an specefic Echo Dot is constantly unavilable so if i choose it as a speaker, nothing happens.

I already have some alexas and i am more familiarized with that system, but im open to new ideas and systems. Thanks everyone.

wow, that’s an open ended question, how much money are you throwing at this?
A lot of people go Sonos, but I think its too expensive. Others use squeezebox with some of their own hardware etc.
More to the point, which way do you lean towards?

Yeah i’ve seen the sonos is the best solution and im considering it, also i saw the IKEA Symfonisk but i dont know if anyone have any experience with them. Im not that handy so any esp32 solutions would be a little bit complicated for me and also im planning on doing various HA installations, so a DIY solution wouldnt be the best.
How does the squeezebox works and with wich hardware is compatible with?

My ideal would be a way that i can instantly play spotofy selected from a tablet i got and choose the speakers that i want to have activated without the problems that i mentioned.

For the client hardware, there “distributions” for ESP32 and Raspberry Pi. You can also run it on any PC and Android.
The server software will run on a PC or Pi.
It is not a cloud-only thing, you will need to host the server element [LMS] yourself on something, but it’s not necessarily resource-hungry.
I know it has Spotify integration, amongst other cloudy integrations, but I can’t vouch for it.

I have six of them and they are all integrated into HA (using the Sonos integration). What do you want to know?

How well does that integraton work with Spotify, is there any limitation and how do you control the music playing?

Also wich other cheaper speakers integrate well with home assistant?

Spotify is in the media library, so I can play pretty much anything to any speaker. I’ve not had any issues that I can remember.

Not that I know of. Using the Sonos V2 app (separate outside of HA), I can play anything from Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, YouTube, etc). From HA, I can play Spotify and any playlists I have saved in the Sonos app.

I use HA, the Sonos app, Apple Music, Spotify, Alexa, etc… all on different devices (phones, tablets, PCs, voice). All in all, I can control media in the house using pretty much anything. lol

To be honest, I’ve not really found many that are good with HA. I tried a lot of them in the past and then just settled on Sonos and the IKEA speakers about 4 or 5 years ago. They are a bit pricey (~$119 US right now for the Symfonisk), but they sound REALLY good and are great for music and TTS alerts. I highly recommend them.

Take a look at picoreplayer. It’s the open source continuation of Logitechmediaserver also known as squeezebox by slimdevices.
